УКРАЇНСЬКА ДІАСПОРА У СУСПІЛЬНО-ПОЛІТИЧНОМУ ЖИТТІ КАНАДИ В 1970-Х – 1980-Х РОКАХ (ЗА ДОКУМЕНТАМИ КДБ УРСР)

Анотація: У боротьбі за відродження української державності значне місце займала діяльність численної української громади в Канаді, яка докладала зусиль у протистоянні радянському режиму. Тому метою статті є висвітлення зусиль української діаспори в Канаді в боротьбі за відновлення української державності,  її взаємодія із канадськими державними інституціями та протидія цьому з боку радянських спецслужб.

Наукова новизна статті полягає в тому, що до наукового обігу вперше залучено секретні архівні документи КДБ, які дотепер не використовувалися науковцями в контексті дослідження запропонованої проблематики.

Методологічною основою дослідження є методи історичного архівознавства, а також проблемно-хронологічний та аналітичний методи роботи з першоджерелами.

Висновки. У статті в результаті аналізу та оприлюднення (в додатках) архівних документів Галузевого Державного архіву Служби безпеки України висвітлено взаємини українських організацій Канади з державною владою крізь призму бачення цих процесів та реагування на це радянськими спецслужбами. Низка канадських урядовців та парламентарів  (включно з прем’єр-міністрами Д. Діфербейкером (1957–1963 рр.), Дж. Кларком (1979–1980 рр.), дієво підтримували український рух. Водночас, була очевидною інша тенденція поміж частини канадських урядовців, передусім команди П’єра Трюдо (прем’єр-міністра у 1968–1979, 1980–1984 рр.), які намагалися уникати конфліктів з СРСР й тому робили спроби обмежити антирадянські дії  українських організацій. Характерно, що КДБ систематично намагалося шляхом провокаційних дій викликати чи поглиблювати ці суперечності.
